"For around 7 yrs I drank up to 2 bottles of whisky a day, if I was stressed, if I was socialising, if I was working and also if I needed to pick the kids up from school. Warnings from my G.P. made no difference and I began a series of hospital admissions, usually through Casualty. It was getting progressively worse until my life became a living nightmare, I lost my job, my health and finally my Family.

Only when I accepted that I needed help and was referred to the Lazarus Centre did I begin to learn about the condition that nearly killed me and through their program of recovery I started to reclaim my life"

"At the age of 31yrs I found myself living alone away from my family because they could no longer cope with my behaviour. I had been a good wife and mother and it was only when I had a Family bereavement to cope with that I began to drink. Very quickly I noticed that I was drinking heavily and all the time, this is where the lying started and I was also hiding the Alcohol.
I was so desperate for help but did not know what was wrong with me. When I finally got to the Lazarus Centre it was an actual relief when I started to learn about Alcoholism and Drug Addiction and realised that there was something that I could do about it. I have been in recovery now for just over 2yrs and have slowly but surely started to reclaim my life

“Would you like to talk to someone,” he asked.  No thanks, my wife’s getting all the help we need.  On reflection I wasn’t being honest with my self I desperately needed help.  I was depressed, repressed and oppressed.  It was only when I reached rock bottom that I took up the initial offer of help and support offered to me by the Lazarus. The counsellor played a vital role in my recovery and helped me understand the nature of addiction.  As a result I am now living my life instead of trying to control others."
