Family Therapy

The Lazarus Centres work has helped to emphasise the role of family therapy in addiction treatment, and to highlight the relationship between family dynamics and the misuse of substances.

“ The pain that comes from loving someone
Who’s in trouble can be profound”
Melody Beattie, 1992

Take an Honest look at ourselves. Addiction is a family illness. This illness affects the addict emotionally and physically and it also dramatically affects the relationships with people who are involved with the addict. They find themselves easily caught up in the insanity of the addicts behaviour, focusing all of their attention  on the addict, making attempts to take control and fix their life while neglecting their own.

Support

Is there an addict in your life?

If the answer is yes then please read on.

You need help if you are:

  • Doing something you really don’t want to do.
  • Saying yes when you mean no.
  • Doing something for someone although that person is capable of and should be doing it for them.
  • Meeting peoples needs without being asked and before you have agreed to do so.
  • Doing more than a fair share of work after their help is requested.
  • Consistently giving more than you receive in a particular situation.
  • Fixing peoples feelings.

And we begin to worry.  We fix everything: making: excuses,
paying their bills and debts, telling lies to cover up for the addicts behaviour and trying to mend damaged relationships. Then we
worry some more. This is our anxiety.
